5 Affordable Upgrades to Make Your Rental More Homey

Create Pray Love | 5 Affordable Upgrades to Make Your Rental More Homey

Thrifty Tuesday | Post #20

If you’re planning on being in your rental for a good amount of time, why not make it more homey by making some changes? Over the years, people have given me tons of tips on this exact topic, so here is a list of five affordable projects [most of them under $25] to get you thinking about how you can make your rental apartment or home feel more like its yours ♥

Disclaimer: Don’t forget to keep all of the old hardware so that you can put it back on when you leave, because anything you buy, you get to take with you!

5 Affordable Upgrades to Make Your Rental More Homey

1. Replace your door knobs with ones that are more unique.

I don’t know why, but I have a thing for older-looking doorknobs! There are plenty of affordable options at the major hardware stores which start around 8 bucks. Also, don’t forget to pay attention to whether you need locking ones for the bedroom & bathroom! Knobs without locks are cheaper, but are typically only used for closets and hallway doors.

2. Jazz up your space with new light switch covers.

You have two options for this project: buy new light switch covers which are already the style & color you prefer, or decorate your current covers and replace them when you move out with new white ones. The latter might be more affordable, but see what works for you.

3. Add a splash of color to any room by painting an accent wall.

If you are allowed to, go ahead and paint some walls! The Dollar Store has paint supplies for cheap, so take a little trip to your neighborhood hardware store to pick out your paint. What are you waiting for?!

4. Give your kitchen a facelift with new cabinet knobs.

Our apartment only has twelve cupboards in the kitchen, so if I found some pretty ones for under $2 each, this whole endeavor could total up to less than $25 spent out of pocket. Pretty good, right?

5. Install a few curtains to add a lot of character.

Curtains do SO MUCH for a room. They can add dimension, texture, & color. Pick up everything you need from a local discount store to keep costs down, or make some curtains yourself! Pinterest has plenty of tutorials.
