Purging & Sorting Craft Supplies | Craft Room Challenge 2018

Craft Supply Organization | Craft Room Challenge

And just like that, Week 2 of the Craft Room Challenge is over! The objective for this week was to purge & sort, & in my last post I said I was going to focus those efforts on my scrapbooking supplies, fabric stash, & toolbox. Are you ready to see the results from my week of purging & sorting craft supplies? I’m including some of the before pictures here again just to show you what a difference a few weeks can make!

Week 2 Goals & Results:

Goal #1: Purge & sort through my scrapbook paper & fabric stash

Results: I love how my scrapbooking shelf looks now!

I not only got rid of scrapbook paper I won’t be using, but I fit all the paper I’m keeping into two of my plastic bins. Additionally, I sorted all of it by color and pattern! The third plastic bin is now where I keep some of my mementos (things that I need to eventually scrapbook). And the rest of my mementos are kept in the two boxes you see below as well as the turquoise filing box!

I also got rid of some fabric! And in the pictures for my next goal, you’ll be able to see how my fabric shelf looks now! Also, in the very last picture you’ll see the stack of the paper & fabric I’m getting rid of!

Goal #2: Start organizing the craft supply shelves in my hall cupboard

Results: They look so much better!!

But next week, I am definitely going to go back into the containers and make everything look all pretty. (Fabric, I’m looking at you. I’m sorry I squished you into your containers!) And I also want to make prettier labels for my supplies because I am not a fan of my own handwriting!

Goal #3: Organize my toolbox

Results: I am loving this system so far. I decided not to store everything vertically, & to lay some of my tools down horizontally so I can see them better. I used small plastic bins from our old desk because I have a different system for organizing the office supplies in our new secretary. I really hope this system lasts! Because it feels good to be able to see everything.

I also got rid of some extra tools, & moved some things into different wire baskets. For example, I had a basket on one of the higher shelves that was empty. After buying caulking supplies a few months ago, I decided to use that basket to store home improvement type supplies. So I moved my putty & a few other things in there, which freed up some space in my tools basket!

And here’s everything I’m not keeping!

The stack of paper I’m going to donate is about three-four inches high. Which is crazy! And then I’m going to recycle various fabric scraps & bits of paper that I don’t really need.

Takeaways from Week 2: Purging & Sorting Craft Supplies

It feels so good to be able to open up our closet/cupboard doors and not have so much stuff in there! Some of these things I haven’t looked at in months because they were on hard-to-reach shelves. But I have to say it feels great to have done some cleaning up in there!

Goals for Week 3: Organizing!

  • Organize my fabric nicely in each of the containers
  • Make pretty labels for my craft supply boxes
  • Try to find better jars for organizing my toolbox
  • Create a system for in-progress projects

It’s looking good. It’s amazing how doing a quick clean up and reorganizing can make a huge difference.
