DIY Friday | Post #3
About six months ago, I spent a Saturday afternoon at home researching easy & affordable homemade lotion recipes. The store-bought lotions I’d been using just weren’t cutting it. I was gradually using more and more throughout the day and my hands frequently felt dry not too long after use. I wanted something with more natural ingredients that would keep my skin moisturized for longer periods of time.
During my research, I found so many recipe options, but one stuck out to me above the others simply because it only requires two ingredients and it was something I could actually make in my tiny 1 bedroom apartment without creating too much chaos.
Here’s the recipe:
Combine 1 part Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to 3 parts Shea Butter with a mixer. I only needed a small batch, so I my exact measurements were 1/4 cup Coconut Oil and 3/4 cup Shea Butter. Once you’ve tried this recipe and know it works for you, you can adjust as needed. I mixed them together for about a minute.
I then used a spatula to get all of the body butter into a jar.
It usually takes about ten minutes for the body butter to fully soak into my skin after application, but this could vary person to person.
Here’s a picture of how my batch turned out:
